Scott McConnell, CMHC
I have experience working with young children, pre-teens, teens, young adults, couples, parents, and adults. Each phase of life has its own nuances, and I love to walk alongside my clients as they navigate the difficult and unexpected circumstances that can occur.
As a parent myself, I am particularly passionate about empowering parents, addressing child-parent attachment, and treating child behavioral concerns. I have also been trained in EMDR and have experience working with both complex trauma and single incident traumas. I am LGBTQ+ friendly and commonly work with clients experiencing faith crisis or transition, anxiety, depression, relationship or marriage dissatisfaction, and addiction. When treating mental health, I find that it is vital for my clients to understand how the brain works, which is why I utilize a science informed and brain-based approach in treatment. I find that the more informed a person is of the function of their brain that they experience less shame and feel more empowered. Interventions that I commonly use are CBT, EMDR, REBT, Biofeedback, Mindfulness, and Attachment Focused Therapy.
I am a transplant to Utah from Colorado, where I earned my Master of Arts in counseling from a CACREP accredited university. One of the first things I learned about Utah when I moved here is that Utahans take their fry sauce seriously, and I am now a convert to that part of the culture. I have also enjoyed partaking of Utah’s outdoors and I am still working on finding my “perfect” fishing spot. I also enjoy skiing and spending time with my family.
